Summer Recruiting Tsunami
Summer can be one of the best recruiting times of the year. Why? Because so many people in MLM/Network Marketing take the summer off. The kids are out of school, there are vacations to take, it’s too hot to be out prospecting and they think to themselves, “No one wants to join in the summer. I’ll start recruiting again in the fall.”
Can I tell you a secret?
Contrary to popular belief people do join in the summer. In fact, some of my best recruiting is done in the summer. The truth is if you really want to succeed in this business you need to be recruiting all year round so that you don’t lose momentum. Once it is lost, it can take months to get back.
I love how Doug Firebaugh describes summer recruiting. It’s a time for hunting, fishing and farming.
Hunting is just like your regular recruiting methods, whether they be online or offline.
Fishing on the other hand is going where the people are and presenting appealing bait. Later in this post I am going to give you lots of places to go to fish for people.
Farming is planting seed for a fall/winter harvest. There will be some people where summer is not the right time for them, but you have made the initial contact, piqued their interest (planted a seed), and have their name and phone number to harvest them in the fall.
Summer recruiting should be fun for you and your team. Set a goal for the summer for how many leads are going to be gotten and hand out prizes at the end of the summer for anyone who reaches that. Have other contests like a scavenger hunt where they have to find certain type of people to talk to like a woman in a red dress. Also make sure that you keep it more relaxed and social. Go out and have a cool drink and just talk after you are done for the day. Have a BBQ potluck instead of an official meeting.
So where are you going to go fishing for people?
- Local Concerts
- Civic Celebrations
- Farmer’s Markets
- Local Summer Sport Teams
- Garage Sales
And one of the big ones is festivals where lots of people are going through. Set up your spot, sell your product, give away free samples and have a draw so that you can get names and numbers of leads to work with. One thing that I do every year usually brings in about 50 customers and 5 new reps to my team. All in one day. It is so worth it.
With the exception of the festivals, where it is good to have a script to get people to your table, what are you going to say when talking to someone? And no I am not going to give you a script today, but I am going to give you some suggestions. When talking to people don’t go in for the kill right away with your product or opportunity. Just start the conversation with a compliment or talking about the weather. It works really well in Canada because we love to talk about the weather. Keep your body language relaxed, and then bring your company into the conversation and see what the interest level is. You will be surprised at how many people will be interested in your product or opportunity.
I encourage you to take advantage of these wonderful summer months and continue to build your business strong.
To Your Success
